Zeus – He was the supreme ruler. He was the king of the gods and sky. Hera – She was Zeus’ sister & wife. She was the goddess of marriage, married women and home. She is very jealous! Poseidon – He was Zeus’ brother. He was the god of the sea. He was the one who gave the horse to man. Hades – He was the brother to Zeus and Poseidon. He was the ruler of the underworld and the dead. The Greeks had a negative view of the afterlife. He was not widely worshipped. Athena – She was the daughter of Zeus; she had no mother. In the poem the Iliad, she is a battle princess. She is seen as a goddess of reason, wisdom, and purity.

Apollo – He was the son of Zeus and Leto. He was the healer, the archer god, sun god, god of light and master musician. Artemis – She was Apollo’s twin sister. She was the lady of wild things, the huntress, maiden goddess and moon goddess. Aphrodite – She was the goddess of love and beauty. Hermes – He was the son of Zeus. He was the messenger of the gods. He was the god of commerce, thieves and mischief makers. Ares – He was the son of Zeus and Hera. He was the god of war. Hephaistus/Hephasstus – He was the god of fire and artisans. Hestia – She was the sister of Zeus. She was the goddess of the hearth and home.
