Lesson 12

  Part 1: Reading for Information (5 min)  Part 2: Applied Mathematics (10 min)  Part 3: Locating Information (15 min) Total Lesson: 30 min Work Keys Lesson 12: Outline

 Part 1: Reading for Information Within the workplace, jargon is specialized language that is specific to a certain industry or field. Technical terms are more formal and may be specific to a certain field or used across many industries. By learning the meaning of jargon and technical terms used within the field you work, it is easier to understand workplace communications and respond to them appropriately.

 Part 1: Reading for Information Example 1:

Example 2:

 Part 2: Applied Mathematics When calculating or comparing measurements, you will sometimes need to convert one of the measurements so that all of the amounts being worked with are in the same unit of measurement. Knowing when measurements need to be converted, and how to do so, is an important skill in many careers.

 Part 2: Applied Mathematics

 Example 1: Part 2: Applied Mathematics

Example 2:Example 3: (4 quarts = 1 gallon) (12 inches = 1 foot)

 In the workplace, you often need to do more than simply find information in graphics. Based on the information that is presented, it is sometimes necessary to draw conclusions about the information that a graphic shows. Part 3: Locating Information
