Get Set … Checklist R Find out about and contact the organisation before you go 12 Because this will give you an understanding of what the organisation is trying to achieve and how your work fits into this J Get to know the layout of the place as quickly as possible 8 Because there may be dangerous, out-of- bound places and it will avoid you interrupting other staff constantly for directions N Agree your hours of work with your work supervisor in advance 10 Because you need to know and others will need to know when to expect you K Clear away after yourself and keep your workplace tidy 9 Because other people may want to use your workplace or find equipment/ materials quickly and easily A Organise your travel to work 11 Because it probably involves a new or strange journey using different transport E Always do what you say you will and respond to requests quickly 5 Because other people rely on you and customers expect a good, quick service C Be punctual on arrival and at break times, and leave at agreed times 7 Because, if anybody is not, it means others have to cover and this usually means delays, added costs and poor customer service H Be courteous to customers and staff 3 Because the organisation depends on customers enjoying their experience and a good atmosphere helps this O Be patient if people are busy 4 Because they have important and urgent jobs to do as well as looking after you L Thank the people you worked with for their support 6 Because they gave their time to you voluntarily D Keep your supervisor informed about where you are at any time 1 Because he or she is responsible for you and will be concerned if you are missing F Make sure you know and can act on all necessary health and safety precautions 19 Because it is the law and, in the case of an emergency, your actions may affect your safety and that of others I Find out what you need to wear – making sure clothes, hair and any jewellery are acceptable 17 Because it gives a professional image to the customer and helps people feel pride in their work.
