Tool kit for making Carnival Headdresses

First, talk about Carnivals then choose a theme.

Design Stage Experiment with lots of sketches in your design booklets Design Stage Experiment with lots of sketches in your design booklets. Choose contrasting styles and shapes for each headdress. Think about adding colour, pattern, character or expression.

Essential Tools and Materials required PVA glue paints and brushes card glitter / sequins stapler coloured tissue paper / newspaper / shiny paper / cellophane / fabric masking tape feathers scissors

Fix two strips of card together with a stapler. Then, wrap it around your partner’s head. Find a point where it is comfortable and fix it with tape. Take it off and then fix it with a stapler.

Add two more strips of card to make a cross across the top of the head. Fix the two strips to the inside of the of the band around the head. It’s a good idea to staple the card so that the staples face outwards. This way hair is less likely to get caught in them.

Coat your headdress with newspaper and generous amounts of masking tape. Extra structures can be added with card or scrunched/rolled up newspaper covered with masking tape.

Add colour to your headdress with paint or strips of tissue paper applied with watered down PVA glue. Texture can be added with fabric, feathers and... anything else you fancy!
