2 Here are some ideas to help you finish off your model.
Your finished model should not only work well, but it should look great too. Here are some ideas to help you finish off your model.

3 A neat way to finish your model is to cover it in paper
A neat way to finish your model is to cover it in paper. This works particularly well if your model is made of 3D shapes with flat faces like the 2 big cuboids on this robot. It is easier to cover the main body before you stick on details like the arms. Draw round the largest face at one end of your paper, then roll it over and draw round each of the adjoining faces in turn until you have the 4 faces in a row Finally add a narrow extra strip to give a small over lap Cut the whole thing out and cover it in a thin layer of glue Stick it neatly around the cuboid Draw round, cut out and stick on the 2 end faces

4 You may need to cut a little hole in your covering paper for your switch. This can be done very neatly by cutting a small cross in the paper above where the switch is and then folding the 4 small triangles underneath. This will give you a small, neat square or rectangular hole for your swtich.

5 If your model has a complicated shape, then it might be easier to paint it instead.
Use thick acrylic paint or poster paint with a little PVA mixed into it as this is better for covering shiny surfaces Make sure you leave plenty of time for it to dry While you are waiting you could work on some other details to stick on later or you could help a friend

6 Aluminium foil makes a good covering for robots.
Brush glue onto your model and stick sections of slightly scrunched foil over it It doesn’t matter if the sections overlap a bit You could cut out coloured paper shapes to stick on top of your almost finished model like this colourful robot. Make eyes, noses, mouths, teeth, buttons or anything else you can think of

7 Finally attach any finishing touches like woollen hair, antennae, noses, googly eyes, ears or anything else that inspires you!

8 Once your model is complete, fill out the first few sections on the back page of your planning booklet called Evaluating my Design. Leave the last 2 boxes blank. Leave these 2 sections for now
