Presentation transcript:

Chapter 1, Page 10 It’s the case of the... ? Who was on the phone? So what’s the main issue/problem? Why did Hilde hit her brother? Find the line that says: “So what do we do?” What do the detectives decide to do? Would Germans know the English word Stakeout?

Chapter 1, Page 10 Give the basic info about Herbert’s girlfriend: Name, age, appearance, etc. On a scale of 1-10, how lame was Günter’s comment at the end? Did Günter deserve to get punched in the arm? Did it hurt? How do you know?

Chapter 2, Page 11 Is it August? How do you know? Find the phrase that says: “Hilde rings the doorbell.” How would you translate “schon gut”? Note: It’s not “schön gut”. Why did Hilde punch Günter this time? What was Herbert’s reaction?

Chapter 2, Page 11 Describe Herbert. Hilde says: “So, was ist das für eine Geschichte mit deiner Freundin?” What does that mean? The next part is going to be acted out. The teacher will be Herbert narrating. A boy and a girl will act out (like charades) what Herbert narrates.

Chapter 3, Page 12 Nicht wahr = doesn’t she? (Isn’t that true?) Can you figure out what doch means? Find the line in German where Günter asks what the problem is. In the last sentence of the paragraph, why is it “sehe ich” and not “ich sehe”?

Chapter 3, Page Where does Herbert see his girlfriend and this other guy? What does the other guy look like? Is this other guy cute? Herbert jokingly insults Günter. What’s the dig?

Chapter 4, Page 13 What does Herbert’s girlfriend look like? Is she cute? What is Günter’s reaction to seeing a picture of Inge? Who gets burned this time? What is the reaction to the insult?

Chapter 4, Page Hilde asks “wo wohnt Inge?” What must that mean from the context? What is different about Inge’s address? What does Herbert think Inge has scheduled for today? Find the phrase that says: “Inge told me about her piano teacher.” What is Hilde suspicious about?

Chapter 5, Page 14 What items to Hilde and Günter each get? Where are Hilde and Günter hiding? Whom do they see first? How does Hilde verify it’s Inge? What does Hilde think about this mysterious guy? How does Hilde insult Günter?

Chapter 5, Page How many shots does Hilde take of the two? Günter says: “Inge sieht schöner aus als auf ihrem Foto.” What does that mean? What does Günter see through the camera? How do you say “telephoto lens” in German? How many total pictures were taken by the end of the second paragraph of chapter 5?

Chapter 5, Page 15 What do you think is going on with this “piano lesson”? Find the phrase that says “we have only one photo left”. What is a Fotoladen? What is the name of the Photo shop? Is this a digital camera? What do you think? What does the last line mean?

Chapter 6, Page 16 What is going on at the beginning of this chapter? What is Herbert’s reaction as he sees more pics? I need one student to read Herbert’s final line in German, crying like a baby. Now I need another student to read the same line in English. How does Hilde comfort Herbert? Does Günter offer any comfort?

Chapter 6, Page Translate Hilde’s explanation at the beginning of the next paragraph. What mood swings does Herbert go through? What different approaches do the men and women make in resolving this matter? Find the line that says: We’ll hit that man together. Find the line that says: Maybe it’s not what you think.

Chapter 7, Page 17 Does Herbert go along with Hilde’s plan or does Hilde go along with Herbert’s plan? What does Hilde drop off at home? What do Hilde and Günter pick up at home? What do you think “doch” means?

Chapter 7, Page What happens as Hilde and Günter arrive at Inge’s house? How far is 50 meters? Where do they end up going? Do you think Inge will notice? The picture on page 18 doesn’t exactly match the description on page 19. What is right and what is wrong?

Chapter 8, Page 19 What does this mean?: Herbert legt das Telefon nicht auf. Give an example of how Herbert is being rude. What is Inge’s reaction to Herbert’s accusations? I’ll need 2 guys and 2 girls to quickly act out the end scene of the first paragraph. Find the line that says: No one listens to what the other one is saying.

Chapter 8, Page So who is this mysterious guy? Does Herbert believe this story? Do you believe this story? What are Inge’s three accusations of Herbert? What is Inge’s revenge? So is everything cool with Herbert and Inge?

Chapter 8, Page 20 Warum wird Hilde rot? Günter says: “Können Sie mal ‘tschüs’ zu Inge und Herbert für uns sagen?” What does that mean? So what happens at the end?
