How to start a student council By Jonathan Decicco , Casey Lyons, Theresa Woo, Amanda Nguyen, Danielle Musasa and Dolkar Dolkar.

Introduction The student council plays a very important role in every schools. They help share students’ ideas, interest and concerns with the teachers and principal. They help students get involved with fundraisers for school projects and help students to become more responsible and active members of our community.

Why? Why does our program need a student council? Malden High school needs a student council for many different  reasons.  One of the biggest reasons for this project is to get the students of Malden High involved with the decisions of the school

Who? A group of students who would be interested in forming a student council. The officers should be included to see if they still want to participate in the student council. There should be a re-election for the student council so that it’s fair to others who want to be included. One idea is that the president and vice president, from every class, are the members part of the student council instead of having a whole new staff.

Where? The location of the meeting where someone need to reserve a room or building. A place where meetings can be held is at the cafeteria, or a teacher’s room that doesn’t mind (Like Ms. Enoksen). Each members can take turns buying snacks. I would expect maybe 10 people to attend, unless there are more members.

What? The needs, concerns and interests of the students at the program by doing some type of needs assessment, interview, or survey.     In the student council, there should be two representatives for each class to voice their opinions on issues or topics of a certain situation. Maybe once or twice a month, students can take surveys as well as staff members to narrow down what important issues that the school want to take action on. With the student council students have a better chance of fighting for the cause they want, for example many freshmen want some sort of semi or dance at the end of the year.

When? The best time to schedule the meetings The student council would meet in one of the instructors room at the school like regular club meetings once a month. This is convenient because it will be in easy for every member to get there considering they go to school daily.

Recommendation Student council would have: President Vice-president Secretary One representatives from each grade and house. Committees

Conclusion Having a student council would encourage students from MHS to participate in school's activities, any students interested in being part of student council can join in. There will be a meetings every month, and the vice president or president will decide where the meetings will take place.
