11 Nov 2008PC Analysis PC Schedule 2008 Tuesdays fortnightly 9 September  23 September  2 October  CM22  11 November  25 November 9 December 23 December

11 Nov 2008PC JC - Schedule etc. MR - Beam characterisatiion with TOFs DF - Spectrometer alignment requirements DF - Statistics CR - G4MICE/ICOOL comparison CR - Transfer maps (?) MA - Beamline & detector status AOB Other items we could discuss, but are mainly closed or suspended, are: MR - Step III with G4MICE/ICOOL comparison TH - Spectrometer field mapping (Terry and/or students) JC - Effect of shield walls on MICE UB - Effect of error fields on performance (ICOOL) CR - Effect of error fields on performance (G4MICE) Apologies from UB ‘Schedule conflict’

11 Nov 2008PC Items / Actions from last meeting: 1) Clarify & document channel alignment tolerances (JC ??) Waiting for definite results for downstream spectrometer alignment 2) ‘Solutions’ and rematching for new FC & CC dimensions to check we are not eating up operating margin UB volunteered but prefers ‘to wait until December when CC dimensions better defined’ 3) Chris to give some help to David with G4MICE / basic checks (After bug fixed, David got too little cooling...) 4) JC to send TH Jim R’s error fields for stand-alone spectrometer in MICE hall !! Must do.. 5) UB + JC + CR to write up results of error field study CR has produced a draft (thank you!) Waiting for contribution from Ulisse + JC to find some free time for minor mods to text

11 Nov 2008PC Grey analysis area – needs clarification – may need volunteers PID software from ‘data file’ of PID and other detectors  i) Reconstructed & calibrated hits  ii) Hit maps (distributions) etc.  iii) Offline / semi-online analysis of recent data taken with beam (iii) important for beamline people (i) and (ii) should be ‘owned by’ / responsibility of owners of PID detectors; is anyone working? (Perhaps a question for Malcolm or Vittorio) Mark.R. is working on use of TOFs for emittance & momentum measurement from somewhere between i) and ii)

11 Nov 2008PC Other analysis tasks 1) Full simulation of ‘200 MeV/c’ baseline MICE VI starting upstream of TOF0 Various emittance (2,6,10mm) beams as defined by diffuser discs Needs input from BL people for Q789 currents (they may be busy) Needs procedure for phasing muons wrt RF Check of beam weighting procedure Need to demonstrate that can do the experiment (still)! 2) Re-appraise need for PID & use of Rikard Sandstroems’s PID routines Are these understood, useable? (may be, but I don’t know) 3) 3 x 3 ‘emittance – momentum’ matrix  full simulation Overlaps with (1) Needs input from BL group 4) Investigate implications of new ‘RF safe’ Palmer modes 5) Overall specification for acceptable magnetic field errors Defines how well Focus & Coupling coils must be mapped Specification for MICE (short) or NF cooling channel (~70m)??
