Morality 4.0 Honoring Family

Bellwork Morality 4.0 Honoring Family  Read CCC 2197:  The 4 th C. shows us the order of charity. God has willed that, after him, we should honor our parents to whom we owe life and who have handed on to us the knowledge of God. We are obliged to honor and respect all those whom God, for our good, has vested with his authority.  Think about it!  Write in response:  All of the following adults have been given authority over you. Tell me what your duty is in the following relationships:  With your parents  With your teachers  With your coaches  With your pastor(s)

The Fourth Commandment: Honoring the Family  Read together CCH pp  Honor your father and your mother, that you may have a long life in the land which the Lord, your God is giving you. Ex. 20:12  The Fourth Commandment is about: respect, gratitude, obedience, and help.

Notes on the 4 th Commandment  God wants all families to become little communities of love like the Holy Trinity.  All of the members of the family truly care about one another.  All help one another in their daily lives.

The Fourth Commandment and Society – Notes to Take  The Church teaches that we should honor and respect other legitimate authority figures, which are established for the public good.  These authority figures include: teachers, counselors, coaches, youth leaders, priests, principals, police, and government workers.  Remember: The Fourth Commandment is about: respect, gratitude, obedience, and help.  Obedience is not required if the request is to do something known to be morally wrong.

“Ever Widening Circles of Respect ”  Authority figures have responsibilities: they must never violate another person’s dignity.  The 4 th Commandment speaks to children, adults, and the ever- widening circles of the human family.  It is a positive statement about respect.
