“Worship the King” Part 8 A Life Worth Dying For Matthew 28:16-20

Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV) Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV) and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age

Two Possibilities Matthew actually concludes his gospel with brief descriptions of two communities.

We are sent just like Jesus was… Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.

We are sent just like Jesus was… (PIC of Galilee)

We are sent just like Jesus was… and while they were there Jesus gave them this command: Therefore go…

We are sent just like Jesus was… On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said,

We are sent just like Jesus was… "Peace be with you!" After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

We are sent just like Jesus was… Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." – John 20:19-21(NIV)

We are sent just like Jesus was… For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16 (NIV)

We are sent just like Jesus was… We are sent to love broken and lost people.

We are sent just like Jesus was… Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God,

We are sent just like Jesus was… did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

We are sent just like Jesus was… And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross! - Phil. 2:5-8 (NIV)

We are sent just like Jesus was… But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. – Gal. 4:4-5 (NIV)

We are sent to make disciples… Therefore go and make disciples…

We are sent to all different kinds of people… Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, The word Jesus used was “ethnos”.

We are sent to all different kinds of people… Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, We are sent to make disciples of all people!

We are sent to all different kinds of people… Jesus came to us at our point of need and we must take Jesus to them at their point of need.

We are sent to teach obedience… …and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Teaching people to obey is sometimes messy.

We are sent to teach obedience… As apostles of Christ we could have been a burden to you, but we were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little children. - 1 Thess. 2:6-7 (NIV)

We are sent to teach obedience… For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you

We are sent to teach obedience… to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory. - 1 Thess. 2:11-12 (NIV)

We are sent with the encouragement of His presence… And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Bottom Line: God has a grand story to tell and He wants to tell His grand story through us!

Worship is first…then the work! When they saw him, they worshiped him;.

Embrace the doubters. …but some doubted The word used for doubted is “distazo”. It means “to waver”

Keep the main thing the main thing and Jesus and His kingdom is the main thing! "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. We are sent to call all people to follow our Savior!

Remember that His presence is with us! …surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Never are we sent to call people to our place - we are sent to call people to our Savior!
