Presentation transcript:

Dear Deep River Scientists, I am a farmer who lives in a small town called Breadbasket. I used to have many friends that were farmers, but a lot of the farm land here in Breadbasket is being turned into parking lots for stores and businesses. There is one big field left in the town and it is for sale. I would really like to buy it, but so would Mrs. Blacktop. I would like to be able to grow my crops on the land. Mrs. Blacktop would like to pour cement over it, and build a shopping center. We both have to go and meet with the town officials to find out who should buy it! I really need to find out more about the soil in this field. I want to know if I will be able to grow crops there or not. I have taken a picture of the field for you to look at. I have also collected some samples of the soil from different parts of the field. I labeled them in the picture for you. Could you please write back and let me know what kinds of soil I have in this field? Sincerely, Farmer Green From To Subject Farmer Green Deep River Soil Scientists Soil in the Field
