Unit 4 Review

Items on the test Revolution and rotation Day and night What causes seasons? Recognize phases of the moon

What is a revolution? A revolution is when the Earth goes around the Earth.

How long does one revolution take? One revolution lasts 365 days. One revolution is 1 year.

What is a rotation? How long is one rotation? A rotation is when Earth spins around its axis. One rotation is 24 hours (1 day)

What causes day and night? Earth’s ROTATION causes day and night. The earth rotates once every 24 hours. For 12 hours half of the Earth faces the sun. The other half faces away from the sun. Then the halfs switch.

What causes the seasons? The Earth’s REVOLUTION causes the seasons The Earth’s TILTED AXIS causes the seasons The sun directly hits one hemisphere and indirectly hits the other hemisphere. The hemisphere with direct sunlight is in summer. The hemisphere with indirect sunlight is in winter.

When is the northern hemisphere in summer? A B D C

When is the northern hemisphere in winter?

When is the southern hemisphere in winter and when is it in summer?

When is it fall in the southern hemisphere?

When is it spring in the southern hemisphere?
