What is the SHAPE tool?  Allows you to draw a variety of VECTOR- based shapes.  Shortcut: U

What is a VECTOR graphic?  Graphics made up of points, lines, and curves that are based on mathematical equations.  Flat-colored, hard-edged, always sharp at any size: resolution independent.

What is a RASTER graphic?  Graphics represented by an array of different colored pixels.  Resolution- dependent: art must be created for the intended use, screen or print.

What are the shape options?  Allows you to control a variety of shapes and set the color.

What are the shape options? Rectangle Rounded Rectangle Ellipse Polygon Line Custom Shape

What are the custom shapes?  The options arrows offers many other categories of useful shapes and symbols.

How do vector shapes work?  The shapes create a special layers icon with a VECTOR MASK.  Double click the raster icon to change the fill color.  Shape masks can be found under the PATHS palette.

How do I modify a shape?  Use the PATH SELECTION tool to move the shape.  Use the DIRECT SELECTION tool to move a single point of a shape.

EXERCISE:  Create a New Document with the following specifications: Size: 8” x 8” Resolution: 72 ppi Color Mode: RGB  Save As: yourname_shapes.psd  Create a collage using each of the 5 shapes plus at least 3 custom shapes.
