A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS Spanish and English Colonization

New Spain Funded by the Spanish monarchy, Spanish explorers, named Conquistadors, searched for gold and silver in the Caribbean, Central and South America. They found these riches, and made Spain the wealthiest and most powerful nation on Earth in Notable Conquistadors  Hernan Cortez – Conquered the Aztecs in Mexico  Juan Ponce de Leon – Conquered Puerto Rico and explored Florida  Francisco Pizarro – Conquered the Inca

Spanish System of Conquest Mestizo population – Spanish settlers married indigenous women, which created large populations of mixed Spanish and Native American people. Encomienda System - A system of forced labor where natives worked land for Spanish landlords.

English Colonization in the Americas England granted charters to companies interested in colonizing the Americas  Virginia Company  Massachusetts Bay Company These companies expected to obtain riches, gold and silver, from North America. watch?v=eHr8VBWobTI watch?v=eHr8VBWobTI
