Christian creation story Day 7 God rested

Muslim creation story When God wants to create something, all he needs to say is "Be", and it becomes God created the world and the heavens. He made all the creatures, which walk, swim. Crawl and fly on the face of the earth. He made the angels, and the sun, moon and the stars to dwell in the universe. God poured down the rain in torrents, and broke up the soil to bring forth the corm, the grapes and other vegetation; the olive and the palm, the fruit trees and the grass. Then it was that God ordered the angels to go to the earth, and to bring seven handfuls of soil, all of different colours, from which he could model man. God took the seven kinds of earth and moulded them into a model of a man. He breathed life and power into it, and it immediately sprang to life. This first man was called Adam.

Explain how one creation story encourages religious people to look after the planet earth (4marks) The Muslim / Christian creation story suggests that.... So Muslims / Christians treat the world by....

Christian belief about the world Draw images for each box Christian belief about the world It was created by God It's perfection and greatness show us something of what God is like. Humans are to care for our planet, and everything living on it That much suffering and pollution is caused by our own selfishness and greed - by disobedience to the way God wants us to live.

Muslim belief about the world Allah created the world Allah gives freedom, but expects us to choose wisely. E.g. do not pollute / damage the earth Allah's world is a gift, so we have to treat it with respect Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) : 1) "Do not cut trees even in war“ this suggests.... 2) "One who grew a tree he grew it for his shadow in heavens“ this suggests....

Earth summits Earth summits: informal name for United Nations Conferences on Environment and Development. People from different countries and religious leaders discuss the threat to the Earth and agree on international action, there have been meetings in the past; Rio de janeiro 1992- discussed pollution/deforestation/scarcity of water. They made a plan for countries to use alternative energy/ protect animals and species and promote sustainable development. Question: How / why do you think they help to protect the environment?

International action 185 countries across the world have agreed to work hard at combating CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions / using alternative energy resources / protecting animals and species etc Question: How / why do you think they help to protect the environment?

Sustainable development Sustainable development: development which takes into consideration the impact on the natural world for future generations. Our present way of life is placing increasing burdens on the planet – in 3 decades the water will run out in the world!!
