16 Christian creation story
Christians believe that the creation story was written around 3,500 years ago. The Bible begins with a story that tells how God created the heavens and the Earth, out of nothing, filled the Earth with living creatures and that God completed his work in 6 days and rested on the 7th day. The story however does not say how the planet came about. It says that it was already there but was covered in water and darkness. God made the planet able to support life (with plants, trees and food) and then he made humans and animals. There is also a second story of creation that describes the creation of the first man and woman, Adam and Eve. Although some Christians take these stories literally, most prefer to concentrate on the religious truths they teach about caring for Earth rather than on their details, and believe that they were not written as scientific explanations for the origins of life.

19 Awe and wonder Science reveals a world filled with mystery, awe and wonder. These inspire people to investigate things and the purpose of life. Even non-religious scientists have a sense of respect for the natural world.

20 Awe and wonder Popular wildlife programs suggest that people are fascinated by the way nature works. Children watch kittens being born, or chicks and are excited. Also parents say that the birth of their new born babies made them feel a sense of awe and wonder at the miracle of new life. Without a sense of awe and wonder at the mystery of nature or its power and beauty, our lives - some people say, would be boring. Some people worry that humans have lost their sense of awe and wonder and are taking the world for granted. Science has explained many of the mysteries of the life and universe so people think it isn’t as wonderful and full of awe as religious people think.

21 Christians and Muslims believe...
Religious responses: Religions use the idea of the sanctity of life to express belief life is precious because it was given by God. Christians and Muslims believe... Both Christians and Muslims believe God created the universe as an expression of his love. As God’s children, humans have a responsibility to care for and protect the natural world and be thankful to God for his gift. Christians call this stewardship, while Muslims call it khalifah
