Recap… Give two ways that modern lifestyles harm the planet. (2 marks) Any of these two: Emissions from vehicles/ factories causing global warming / waste created / using up of non-renewable resources / clearing of tropical rainforests-deforestation / pollution / fertiliser / pesticides / visual/noise pollution / acid rain etc.

TP: What is the connection between these pictures? The air pollution from the factory has caused the fish to have 3 eyes.

Effects of humans on the planet… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zyizEz9XUs

Our planet is the only one we have to live on. It provides us with all the resources we need to survive. Agree? Disagree? Why?

Can you name different types of pollution?

Noise Water Land Visual Air Light

Activity: Choice 1: Match the type of pollution to its sources and then to its effect. Choice 2: Match the type of pollution to its sources, to its effects and give some ways in which you believe we can manage the effects

Pollutions Christians – it is not good stewardship as God’s creation is being abused. Pollution also harms humans so this does not follow the teaching of ‘love thy neighbour’. Buddhists believe pollution goes against the first precept, ahimsa, to not harm any living things. Task: Add two bubbles in your book stating the two religious views To get a higher grade: Do you agree with any of these views? Explain your answer with well-developed reasons.

GCSE question… ‘All religious believers should be concerned about climate change.’ What do you think? Explain your opinion. (3 marks) Change affects everyone / causing severe weather patterns e.g. storms / floods / drought / temperature variations / wildlife affected / failure to do so would not be good stewardship / future generations will suffer the consequences / God’s given us responsibility / Mother Earth important. Little one person can do / other things to worry about / won’t affect present generations that much / facts disputed by some scientists e.g. may be cycle of the sun.
