BIENVENUE A LA CLASSE DE FRANÇAIS! MME LESLIE RANSDALL

Leslie Ransdall (voic ) Or Plan: 2nd HOUR

If you would like to receive progress reports, please write your address on the class roster sheet. If there is an “OK” by your child’s name, no need to write the address.

GRADE IS WEIGHTED! 15% HOMEWORK COMPLETION 15% PARTICIPATION (may be individual, group, class, partner) 70% TESTS/ ESSAYS/ ORAL PRESENTATIONS

 Because it is imperative to understand one concept in a foreign language before moving on to another, it will be possible to re-take most tests for a maximum score of 85%. Your student will have to arrange do this on his/her own time: before or after school or during seminar. It may be necessary to show evidence of studying before being allowed to take the test.

 HOMEWORK is a completion grade of 5 points per assignment. If a student is absent he/she may turn in late work for full credit. If your student misses an assignment and he/she was not absent, he/she may turn in the assignment late for 4/5 points.  Web backpack 

CLASS GOALS: 1.Use French for oral communication (no English) 2.Learn to read and produce a variety of text types (article, blog, news report, interview, brochure, instructions, correspondence, journal, literature, etc.) 3.Learn to communicate fluently with a wide range of vocabulary using complex sentences (oral and written) 4.Connect with new cultures and make comparisons with one’s own

AP IB  Global Challenges  Science and Technology  Contemporary Life  Beauty and Aesthetics  Families and Communities  Personal and Public Identities  Communication and Media  Global Issues  Social Relationships  Customs and Traditions  Leisure

YOU MAY TAKE THE CLASS FOR: 1.AP CREDIT. A student must take the AP test in order to have the “AP” designation on their transcript. If they have an A in the class and take the AP test they are exempt from the final for Semester 2. 2.COLLEGE NOW CREDIT. They will receive 3 hours credit from JCCC. 3.IB. Same exemption for final as AP. THIS IS AN HONORS CLASS FOR EVERYONE!.

Avantages Inconvénients  Looks good on college and scholarship applications.  Seniors may opt out of Semester 2 final (if he/she has A in class and no unexcused absences, etc.)  May receive college credit. (How much depends on AP score and the university. Usually must be at least 3 out of 5. )  Must pay for test.  Test is difficult. Student will have to study independently and prepare on his/her own.

Avantages Inconvénients  Student will receive 3 credit hours from JCCC.  Sure thing. No extra tests, no extra studying.  Credit hours are much less expensive than KU, K State.  Cost. Must pay for 3 hours now.  Your university may not accept the hours.  You are limited to the total number of JCCC credit hours you receive in high school.

Avantages  free Inconvénients  not every university offers it  Have to take test  Have to take one more class and pass it  KU will not allow Freshmen to take 300+ level classes
