The Genesee County Metropolitan Alliance is the agency designated as the official Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Genesee County. The Metropolitan Alliance is responsible for carrying out the federal transportation planning process in Genesee County. The Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission GCMPC serves as staff to the MPO.

Federal Funding in Genesee County Average Annual Preservation Funds $8 Million for urban roads $450,000 for rural roads

Urban and rural roads that are classified as: Interstate FreewayPrincipal Arterial Minor Arterial Major Collector Minor Collector Local roads are not eligible for federal funding. Federal-Aid Eligible Roads

Local Road Agencies approve the application Staff releases call for projects Staff scores project applications Metropolitan Alliance prioritizes Projects Transportation Systems Management Technical Advisory Committee Projects are funded in priority order Projects go through a public comment period Final approval by the Metropolitan Alliance Transportation Improvement Program Process

Average Age of Bridges Genesee County: 46 years Ingham County: 42 years Kent County: 37 years

Projected Bridge Needs Average Bridge Service Life: 50 years 329 Bridges in Genesee County will have reached this age by 2035 Costs approximately $2.5 million to reconstruct a bridge Roughly $1.5 billion needed for bridge improvements through 2035 (5% compounding annual interest included for anticipated cost increases)
