How Ben Franklin Stole The Lightning Main Selection and Vocabulary

Strategy Generate Questions -You should always ask yourself good questions as you read. This will help you check your understanding of the story and focus on important ideas.

Skill Problem and Solutions -Sometimes the author of a biography writes about a problem that the subject has and takes actions to solve. By the end of the biography, the subject usually finds a solution to the problem.

Idioms Group of words which have a collective meaning different from that of each individual word. For example: -babe in the woods -hold your horses -chunk of change -piece of my mind

Grammar Possessive noun- a noun that shows who or what owns or has something (Ben Franklin’s). Singular possessive noun- singular noun that shows ownership (kite’s long string). Plural possessive noun- a plural noun that shows ownership (people’s, experiments’).

Selection Words Eclipse- a shadow that moves across the sun or moon. Odometer- a meter that tells how far a vehicle has traveled. Scurvy- a disease that causes weakness, joint pain, and dental problems. Scepter- a staff carried by a king or queen to represent power. Tyrants- cruel or unfair rulers.
