INTRO…..  Settled first along Niger river  As settlement grew, resources grew scarce  They migrated to Eastern Coast to the Savannah region  Developed new farming techniques  Developed iron-working

BANTU  Over 400 different ethnic groups of Africa from south of the Sahara desert to South Africa sharing a common language

MIGRATION  Large scale movement occurring over large distances over time in different phases

ACHIEVEMENTS  Iron-making- Bantu introduced iron making to southern Africa Iron axes and hoes allowed Bantu to cut down trees and farm  Trade networks with East Coast brought yams, potatoes, and bananas that grew in rainforest

WOMEN'S ROLES  Advisor to the males and other family members  Farming  Care for home and family Matrilineal- family line traced on mothers side
