COMPUTER SOLUTIONS 1 **Notes from DVD: I Was Cyberbullied

 Refers to any incident in which a person is tormented, embarrassed, harassed or threatened by another person through technology-whether by Internet, instant message, text message, digital photo, interactive gaming forum or other interactive technologies.  **In some cases, cyberbullying may be against the law!

 Sending hateful or threatening online instant messages to peers.  Tricking people into revealing personal information.  Posting embarrassing photos or s without the consent of the person who sent them.  Stealing a person’s online password and filling his or her profile with inappropriate content or photos.

 Creating a hate blog /website aimed at insulting a specific individual.  Creating Internet polls that allows teens to negatively rate their friends. Ex: “Who’s the fattest kid in 6 th grade?”  Verbally abusing a peer, making threats or using lewd language during online gaming.  Sending spyware or computer viruses.  ing pornography, spam and other types of unsolicited junk mail.

 1. Cyberstalking: Repeatedly sending intimidating messages that include threats of harm, engaging in other online activities that make a person afraid for his or her safety.  2. Denigration: “Dissing or disparaging someone online, sending or posting cruel gossip or rumors about a person to damage hi or her reputation or friendships.

 3. Exclusion: Intentionally excluding someone from an online group, like a buddy list or a group gaming forum.  4. Flaming: Online fights using electronic messages with angry and vulgar language.  5. Hacking: Breaking into someone’s account without authorization and obtaining information about a person from computer files.

 6. Harassment: Repeatedly sending offensive, rude and insulting messages, texts, photos, phone calls, s or other electronic communications.  7. Impersonation: Breaking into someone’s account, posing as the person and sending messages to make the person look bad, get that person in trouble or danger or damage that person’s reputation or friendships.

 8. Outing: Sharing someone’s secrets or embarrassing information online.  9. Trickery: Tricking someone into revealing secrets or embarrassing information, which is then shared online.  10. Trolling: Intentionally posting provocative messages about sensitive subjects to create conflict, upset people and bait them into “flaming” or fighting.

 Never post your personal information on social networking sites.  Never share passwords except with your parents.  Do not add people to your buddy or friends list if you do not really know them.  If someone starts to act strange or aggressive, block them from your list.  Refuse to pass along cyberbullying messages.

 If you wouldn’t say it in person, don’t’ say it online!
