Why Do You Talk Like That? Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles - Proverbs 21:23 -

Why Do People Cuss? Why do people cuss, use vulgar words, swear, use profanity (God’s name, four-letter words, etc.)? Profanity or cursing (Ex. 20:7; Lev. 19:12; 20:9; 24:14- 16; Mk. 7:10; Rom. 3:14) Swearing (Mt. 5:33-37; Rom. 12:14; Jas. 3:9-10; 5:12)

Why Do People Cuss? Some people do it because they are angry and want to “let off steam” (Prov. 16:32; 16:27; 25:28; Gal. 5:23) Some people do it because their heart is wicked (Mt. 12:34-34; Mk. 7:21-23) Some people do it to get attention or “fit in” (Gal. 1:10)

Why Do People Lie or Deceive? Why do people tell all kinds of lies or use deceitful language? Lying (Lev. 6:1-6; Prov. 6:17,19; 12:22; 19:5,9; Mk. 7:22; Eph. 4:25; Col. 3:9; Jas. 3:14; Rev. 21:8,27; 22:15) Guile / deceit (1 Pet. 2:1,22; 3:10)

Why Do People Use Innuendo? Why do people use sexual innuendo or other suggestive language? Foolish talk / loose talk / obscenity (Lev. 19:14; Prov. 17:5; Mt. 12:36; Gal. 5:19; Eph. 5:4; Col. 3:8) Jesting (Eph. 5:4) Euphemisms (a substitute word for an offensive word)

Why Do People Use Innuendo? Some people do it to get close to the real thing (Rom. 1:32; 12:21; 1 Cor. 13:6; Eph. 5:11-12) Some people do it to be funny, silly, or “horse-play” (Eccl. 10:12-15)

Why Do People Boast? Why do people boast, brag, or use false flattery? Boasting /bragging (Rom. 1:30; 1 Cor. 13:4; Jas. 4:16) False flattery (Job 32:31-32; Psa. 5:9; Prov. 29:5)

Why Do People Boast? Some people do it to build up themselves (Rom. 12:16) Some people do it to get “praise” from others (Prov. 25:27; 27:2; 2 Cor. 10:12,18)

Why Do People Murmur? Why do people murmur, complain, find fault, unjustly criticize, or speak bitterly? Murmur / complain (1 Cor. 10:10; Phil. 2:14; Jas. 5:9) Fault-finding / unjust criticism (Mt. 7:1-5; 7:24; Jas. 4:11-12) Bitterness (Rom. 3:14; Eph. 4:31; Heb. 12:15)

Why Do People Murmur? Some people do it because they are never happy or content (Phil. 4:11; 1 Tim. 6:8; Heb. 13:5) Some people do it because they are unforgiving (Eph. 4:32; Col. 3:13)

Why Do People Tear Down? Why do people gossip, backbite, slander, mock, scoff, ridicule, blaspheme, revile, etc.? Gossip / tale-bearing / ridicule (Lev. 19:16; Prov. 11:13; 16:28; 18:8; 20:19; 26:20,22; Rom. 1:29; 2 Cor. 12:20; 1 Tim. 5:13; Jas. 4:11; 3 Jn. 10) Slander / backbiting (Psa. 15:1-3; 101:5; Prov. 10:18; 25:23; Rom. 1:30; 2 Cor. 12:20; Eph. 4:31; Col. 3:8; 1 Tim. 3:11; 1 Pet. 2:1)

Why Do People Tear Down? Why do people gossip, backbite, slander, mock, scoff, ridicule, blaspheme, revile, etc.?
