A school council can provide opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings to teachers and staff A school council will give pupils the opportunity to develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation. A school council is:

A school council does a number of things: Baines Endowed School Council What does it do ?

Baines Endowed School Council · A good school council represents the views of all pupils and strives to get things done. Good communication between representatives and their class Training for school council members Smaller groups (sub committees) working on specific events or issues A bank account or budget (however small) Annual evaluations ~ where we set ourselves targets and evaluate our successes and failures !! What makes a good school council?

What your school council can’t do for you ! Make all of the changes you want all of the time. Change everything overnight. Agree to anything that would not be in your best interests like NO LESSONS !!! Baines Endowed School Council

Will I have to give a speech to my class ? Before you decide to become a Councillor there may be a few things that you need to think about. Do I have the time to be a Councillor ? Will I enjoy it? What would I like To see different about our school ? If anything! What will being a Councillor involve ? Do I mind giving up my own free time ? Will I be able to let the school know what other children think ?

Baines Endowed School Council Being a school councillor is a very responsible position as they have to have a lot of sensible ideas and sometimes have to do things in their spare time so if you think you have the qualities needed the next step is the election process.

Baines Endowed School Council The Election Process.

A school council is an opportunity for you to make a difference to your school environment. It does need commitment, time, understanding but most of all a need to want to help pupils and staff of Baines Endowed. It is your right to say what you think should happen (within reason !!!) and to give your opinion. Baines Endowed School Council

Over the next few weeks think about and decide if you want to stand for school council. Discuss with your family and friends and write a speech about your ideas and thoughts of what YOU think you can give to Baines Endowed School Council. Do some research and look at other school councils and see what they have achieved. Is there a project you would like the school council to adopt? Let us know in your speech. You can deliver your speech in person or pre-record it. It can be up to 2 minutes long but no longer! Good Luck! Intentions to stand to be received by Monday 27 th May Speeches to be heard TUESDAY 5th and WEDNESDAY 6th May 2015 VOTING TO TAKE PLACE ON THURSDAY 7 th May 2015.
