2 What is The Whittington Mile?

3 We now have a Whittington Mile Track around our school field.
What is The Whittington Mile? We now have a Whittington Mile Track around our school field. As a school, we are aiming to improve the health and fitness of all of our pupils and staff! The Whittington Mile will help to achieve this.

6 Everyone will take part, even the teachers hopefully!
What is The Whittington Mile? Each class will have to complete the mile 3 times a week, minimum – more if they want to! Everyone will take part, even the teachers hopefully! We will complete the mile in most weathers and it will be done when the teacher feels like the class needs it!

7 Why are we doing The Whittington Mile?

8 Why are we doing The Whittington Mile?
The aim of the Whittington Mile is to help to improve the health, fitness and wellbeing of everyone in the Whittington Family. Hopefully we will see an improvement as the weeks go by and the miles add up!

9 How does it work?

10 How does it work? Three times a week you will go outside with your class, for 10 minutes and run or walk around the track. It is not a race and it is not competitive, you go as fast as you can. This may be done as a warm up to your PE session or it can be done in the middle of a lesson when your teacher decides it’s needed. It will be a good brain break!

11 What happens next?

12 What happens next? This week everyone will be completing an initial thoughts questionnaire where you can write what you think about it. If you like the idea or not, things you are looking forward to or worried about. We will also complete an initial assessment where we will assess how many laps of the track you can do in 10 minutes.

13 What happens next? Then, at the end of the Summer term we will do the same two activities to see if your opinions and thoughts have changed. Also to see if your fitness has improved over the two months you have been completing the Whittington Mile. Once we have carried out the initial data gathering, we will start the mile next week.

14 We are really excited about The Whittington Mile.
Look out for a display in school soon to show how many miles your class has done and to see some photos of the mile in action!
