The Vitruvian Man The drawing is based on the ideal human proportions described by the ancient Roman architect Vitruvius in Book III of his treatise De Architectura. Other artists tried to depict this concept but didn’t succeed. This picture was part of Da Vinci’s attempts to relate man to nature.
