Presentation transcript:

SCIENCE A system of knowledge about the natural world and the methods used to find that knowledge.

The use of scientific knowledge to solve practical problems. TECHNOLOGY The use of scientific knowledge to solve practical problems.

CHEMISTRY The study of what things are made of – the structure, properties and reactions of matter.

PHYSICS The study of how things work – the interactions between matter, energy, forces and motion.

The study of the history and structure of the Earth. GEOLOGY The study of the history and structure of the Earth.

The study of the universe outside the Earth. ASTRONOMY The study of the universe outside the Earth.

The study of living things. BIOLOGY The study of living things.

SCIENTIFIC METHOD An organized plan for gathering information to answer questions or solve problems.

HYPOTHESIS An educated guess – a proposed answer to a question based on facts and reasons.

CONTROLLED EXPERIMENT An experiment in which only one variable (factor) is changed at a time.

SCIENTIFIC THEORY An explanation of observations or experiments that has been tested over and over by many scientists with the same result.

SCIENTIFIC MODEL A representation of an object or event that is too big or too small to observe directly.
