Summit’s “TOOLBOX SAFETY TALK” Slips, Trips and Falls WELCOME

How does slips, trips and falls affect you?  700 occupational fatalities in the US each year  CFR  Lost time  Lost production  Broken equipment  A lifetime of pain!!!!!!!

SLIPS!! Weather conditions Spills Stairs Tools If you spill something clean it up! Slips: to slide along smoothly resulting in a sudden mishap

Safe worksites have become death traps when hazards are not corrected! Poor house keeping Dangerous surface conditions Insufficient lighting Inattention to tasks Improper footwear

The main causes of slips, trips and falls in the workplace? Lack of work place inspection Improper tool storage Accumulations Spills

FOOTWEAR Use good judgement with regard to footwear while on duty. Be certain footwear is in good condition and appropriate to your job function and outside weather condition.

TRIPS!! Damaged steps Misplaced items Inspect steps Use handrails Trips :to catch the foot on something so as to stumble

WHAT CAN YOU DO? 4If something is creating a potential slip, trip, or fall hazard fix it (clean it up - move it) 4Place signs to warn others of the potential hazard 4If you can not fix it - Place a work order so that you facility manager is aware of the problem

Notify Supervisor Employees should immediately report all work related injuries to their supervisor State law requires that injuries should be reported in writing within a limited number of days (varies by state) Place a work order or use the Report of Unsafe Conditions form to get the problem fixed

Plan and Prepare Make sure employees understand the consequences. Impress upon employees. Use Data Use the opportunity Discuss the danger Discuss prevention Develop a program
