Arizona’s Bioscience Roadmap CRESMET Conference Competing in a ‘Flat World’ Economy Martin L. Shultz Chair Arizona Bioscience Roadmap Steering Committee

Steering Committee To oversee implementation of Arizona’s Bioscience Roadmap.

Executive Committee To guide the Steering Committee’s committees and workgroups charged with implementing specific actions of the Bioscience Roadmap.

Communications & Public Affairs Committee To focus efforts to inform the state’s citizenry, business leadership and elected officials of the importance of the biosciences.

Federal and State Relations Workgroup To develop and implement a collaborative federal and state relations plan to provide objective information to elected officials and their staffs.

Investment & Capital Formation Committee To understand and influence the development of the continuum of investment and capital needs including pre-seed/seed funds, prototype funds and trends in venture capital investments in Arizona.

Workforce Committee To assist with implementation of selected areas of the Biosciences Workforce Study.

Education Committee To identify existing P-20 science/math resources and opportunities for additional collaboration: to encourage young people to explore and pursue bioscience and technical careers.

Research Committees Asthma Research Committee Bioagricultural Research Committee Bioengineering Committee Bioimaging Committee Cancer Research Committee Neurological Sciences Committee

Translational Research Committee To develop a statewide collaborative set of activities that promote clinical and translational research.

Build Research Identify and promote strategic research opportunities through Roadmap platform committees. Support key/research institutions – TGen, IGC, C-Path.

Translate Research Secure TGen as a statewide collaborative base. Secure federal funding for the TGen/UA College of Medicine Arizona Clinical and Translational Research and Educational Consortium (ACTREC), others. Develop a statewide clinical and translational research network.

Strengthen Industry Promote and support the alignment of economic development activities with research investment at the state, regional and local levels. Identify solutions to gaps and challenges related to technology commercialization including capital formation at all levels. Continued

Strengthen Industry Assist the Arizona Bioindustry Association & BIOSA to build a solid infrastructure and enhance membership services. Encourage venture fund investment in Arizona bioscience companies.

Educate Citizens Promote the Biozona brand developed by the Communications & Public Affairs Committee.

Prepare Workforce Encourage enhanced high school math and science programs and bioscience emphasis. Promote internship programs for high school and college students.
