Presentation transcript:

Objective: Identify 5 physical changes that occur during adolescence Recognize that some changes only happen in a male body and they differ from female changes. Locate at least 3 parts of the male reproductive system. Journal # 2 What are three ways your body has changed since you were 10?

 Period between childhood and adulthood  Changes occur at different times and speeds for everyone  It changes you physically, mentally/emotionally, and socially.  Many of the changes are caused by hormones.  Hormones are produced in the endocrine system.

Puberty is a time during childhood and/or adolescence when you develop physical characteristics of adults of your own gender Physical Changes  Increased levels of male hormone (testosterone)  Sudden, rapid growth occurs  Permanent teeth come into place  Acne  Underarm hair  Increase perspiration  Pubic hair appears  Muscles development  Deeper voice  Broadened shoulders  Facial hair  Production of sperm cells  Enlargement of external genitals

Parts of Reproduction System 1.Penis – made of a spongy tissue and blood vessels 2.Testes – glands that produce sperm and testosterone 3.Scrotum – pouch that contains the testes 4.Epididymis – mature sperm are stored here 5.Prostate gland – produces fluids that protect sperm and help sperm move through the reproductive system 6.Vas Deferens – duct that transports sperm from the epididymis to the penis 7.Urethra – small tube that runs from the bladder along the length of the penis
