3RD TAC LIGHT SOURCES USERS’ MEETING (TAC-LSUM 2013) | OCTOBER 5-7 | 2013 | ANKARA UNIVERSITY THE GOALS The TARLA aims to obtain FEL between µm using MeV electron beam. There will be two different optical resonators with undulators with 2.5cm and 9.0cm periods. In order to have wide research area, the electron beam is requested to be continuous wave with high current as well as pulsed with low current. We plan to use high average current normal conducting injector which operates CW mode and superconducting accelerators which are fed by solid state power amplifiers. We propose to use electron beam itself for material and detector research in the future Suat Özkorucuklu |Istanbul University 2

3RD TAC LIGHT SOURCES USERS’ MEETING (TAC-LSUM 2013) | OCTOBER 5-7 | 2013 | ANKARA UNIVERSITY THE PLANS We are planning on IR FEL Stations (5): Photon science and diagnostics Ultrafast photonics applications General IR spectroscopy Material characterization Bio-micro spectroscopy and biomedicine and also Bremsstrahlung line after the second accelerating module for nuclear structure and gamma radiation studies Suat Özkorucuklu |Istanbul University 3 TARLA is an official member of EU-FP7 Project named as CALIPSO for training of users in any 20 European Light Source Facilities

3RD TAC LIGHT SOURCES USERS’ MEETING (TAC-LSUM 2013) | OCTOBER 5-7 | 2013 | ANKARA UNIVERSITY EXPECTED FEL PARAMETERS 16 Suat Özkorucuklu |Istanbul University Plots shows possible wavelength ranges and single pass gain for beam energy vs. undulator strengths. (constant bunch length, optimum out coupling factor, etc) In realty obtaining these limits for the wavelengths would not be possible, due to low strength or long bunch length.

3RD TAC LIGHT SOURCES USERS’ MEETING (TAC-LSUM 2013) | OCTOBER 5-7 | 2013 | ANKARA UNIVERSITY EXPECTED FEL PARAMETERS 17 Suat Özkorucuklu |Istanbul University Plots shows gain (left) and intracavity power (right) behavior versus round trips between mirrors.. It is seen that gain for longer wavelengths (therefore saturated power) is too small.. The calculations was performed for optimum out coupling factor etc. bunch length and detuning has been optimized for different FEL wavelengths lengths
