Weather Tools

Scientists who study weather are called Meteorologists. A meteorologist uses tools to measure the weather. Read on to find out more about the tools meteorologists use to measure the temperature, the amount of precipitation, the wind speed and the wind direction.

Thermometer Measure the temperature of the air.

Rain Gauge Measures the amount of precipitation.

Wind Vane or Wind Sock Measures the direction the wind is blowing. This photograph is of a Wind Vane. The letters on the wind vane represent the direction the wind is blowing. N = NorthE = East S = South W = West

Anemometer Measures the wind speed (or how fast the wind is blowing).
