Starting Word 1. Make sure Windows is running 2. Click the Start button and then point to Programs 3. Point to Microsoft Word 4. Click Microsoft Word 5. Click the Maximize button in the upper- right corner of the Word window

Checking the Screen before the tutorial begins: b Set the Document View to Normal bWeb Layout, Outline, Print Layout b Display the Toolbars and Ruler b Set the Font and Font Size b Display the Nonprinting Characters b Word Screen Session Checklist Figure1-10, pp. WD1.11

Typing a Letter b Click the New Blank Document button to open a fresh document b Use AutoComplete tip b Enter the text b Save a document with the filename

Adding Properties to a Document b Click File, Properties b Click the Summary tab b Editing Properties: bHighlight and retype or delete bClick OK bThe document’s new properties are saved.

Word Wrap Feature b Automatic line breaks b Place the insertion pointer at Ln20 Col1 b Type text and press the spacebar b Press the Enter Key b This completes the paragraph.

Scrolling in a Document b Place the insertion point at the bottom of the screen b Type the second paragraph (Figure 1-20) and then press Enter Key twice to insert a blank line b Notice the top of the letter scrolls off the top of the top of the document window.

Error Correction b A wavy red line indicates a duplicated word or a mistake A green wavy line indicates an extra space or a grammatical error b Word automatically corrects common errors b Tools, Options, Spelling & Grammar, Check Spelling & Grammar as You Type

Error Correction Position the insertion pointer in the correct location and right click the mouse button A list box appears with suggested spellings Select the desired spelling To delete, use either the Backspace key or the Delete key

Finishing a Letter b Complete the letter (see Figure 1-24) b Scroll the text using the scroll bar b Save the completed letter b Click the Print Preview Button b Close and return to normal view b Click File, Print – select # copies and page ranges b Click OK to Print
