To Kill a Mockingbird Sarah Volio Alejandro Hernandez Jose Eduardo Zoffoli “TWO THUMBS UP!” PG

Song I chose Blackbird by the Beatles to be the theme song because it talks about African Americans fighting for freedom. Racism is one of the main themes of this novel.

Characters Sarah Volio (Scout Finch): Sarah Volio is perfect for this part because she is very mature, intelligent, and puts academics way before her social life. She is not at all feminine and is very adventurous.. Volio has short dark hair and brown eyes.

Characters Alejandro Hernandez (Atticus Finch) : Alejandro is a very tall, has black eyes, and brown hair. He sticks up for what he believes and does not care what others think of him. He is a quiet person but has a strong personality. He will be able to play “Atticus” as their characters are very similar.

Jose Eduardo Zoffoli (Jem Finch): Alessandro is not always trying to stay out of trouble. He has light brown hair and brown eyes. Zoffoli is very enthusiastic, smart, adventurous, and very thoughtful. Characters

Setting I will film this in “Valle del Sol”, a middle class neighborhood.

Scene #1 It is Scout’s first day of school and she is very excited. At the end of the day, she is disappointed when her teacher makes her feel guilty for already knowing how to read. She complains to Jem and he tells her it is just a new teaching method she is trying. This is an important scene because it represents much of Scout’s qualities and her personality.

Scene #2 Dill, Jem, and Scout decide peek in through the Radley House. Suddenly, they see the shadow of a man who starts to shoot at them. They escape from under the fence but Jem’s pants get left behind. This is an important event as it is the first time the kids have any kind of interaction with Radley. Boo and his situation demonstrate a big moral in this novel.

Scene #3 In school, one of Scout’s classmates insults her dad because he is defending a black man accused of raping a white girl. Atticus does not expect to win the case but he does it because he knows it is the right thing to do. This part of the book first talks about the case that Atticus has taken. It also shows the reaction of the people to this. It is really important to see that he is willing to risk his reputation in order for this black man to receive justice.

Scene #4 Aunt Alexandra stays with the Finches and makes sure that Scout is getting feminine influence. Aunt Alexandra is against Scout wearing overalls and being a tomboy. I think this scene is important because it shows how the fact that she only lives with men affects the way Scout is. In some ways, it is very hard for her to live in a society were girls have to be proper and feminine.

Scene #5 Jem and Scout were devastated when Tom was convicted. They didn’t understand why he was found guilty even though their father had obviously proven that he was innocent, it was demoralizing. This is one of the most important scenes in the whole book. It shows how the fact that Tom was black was more important than justice.

Personal Response I think this book is amazing and has so many morals that you really learn from. This novel was unique because it was written from the perspective of children. For example, despite what the town says about Boo Radley, Scout and Jem are able to sympathize with him more.

Summary The story is about two kids whose father is defending a black guy accused of raping a white girl. During the novel, Scout and Finch are insulted in their community because of what their father is doing. Atticus, their father, does it because he knows it is the right thing to do; he will defend this innocent man regardless of his race. At the end, the man is convicted. The children are demoralized when they learn this. How can people be so cruel and unfair?
