NICE quality standards and guidelines NICE quality standards are a concise set of prioritised statements designed to drive measurable quality improvements within a particular area of health or care. They are derived from the best available evidence such as NICE guidance and other evidence sources accredited by NICE. Quality standards sit alongside and complement guidelines. NICE guidelines are systematically developed statements based on the best available evidence, and include recommendations intended to guide decisions. The primary role of NICE guidelines is to provide recommendations on "what works" in terms of both the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of care interventions and services.
