Presentation transcript:

 The ribbon is the primary form of navigation in the Microsoft Office 2007 system.  There are seven Tabs on the Ribbon, more (contextual) tabs will appear as needed.

Sit across the top of the Ribbon. Each one represents tasks you do in a program 1 Tabs Sets of related commands, displayed on tabs. 2 Groups Can be a button, a menu, or a box where you enter information. 3 Commands

To Start a New document, Open or Save a document, click on the Microsoft File Tab. The office button has been removed. Many of the other commands you use can be found by clicking on this button. You can also, View Recent Documents use Word Options and Exit Word

In addition to Tabs, Groups and Commands the Ribbon also has other options. The image to the right shows the dialog box launcher of the font group. Many of the groups have a dialog box launcher. This button will open a dialog box with options and commands that were not on the ribbon.

The Quick Access Toolbar is found next to the Microsoft Office Button You can customize this toolbar by moving it or by adding commands. Click on the down arrow on the right of the toolbar to customize it. Another way to add a command to the Quick Access Toolbar is to right click on the command.

Some tabs are not always visible, but instead appear only in response to an action you take. These are called Contextual Tabs. Inserting a table, Clip Art, Pictures, Shapes and Charts are a few ways to have theses tabs appear – if – the item inserted has been selected.

Insert a picture, select the picture and the Picture Tools appear. The Format tab contains the commands you need to work with the picture. When you are through working with the picture, click out of the picture so that it is no longer selected, the Picture Tools go away.

If you want to work on the picture again, just click it, and the tab appears again, with all the commands you need. The Ribbon in word is designed to display the tabs and commands as needed.

Use the circled question mark in the top right corner to access help. Word Help will be displayed, type the command you want to see. Help

Screen Tips Place your pointer over a command to display a tip about that command. If your screen tip displays the prompt to use the F1 key, the help menu will go to that topic.

The F1 key also displays the help window. Use the Table of Contents button.
