Pocahontas was born in 1595.

She was the daughter of Powhatan who was the leader of a group of native American tribes.

Pocahontas was a Princess because her father was such an important man.

She belonged to the Algonquin tribe.

Long houses were made of wood Long houses were made of wood. They had a fire in the middle of the floor and no doors, just mats over an opening.

Pocahontas was her nickname. She had three names in total She had 3 names. 'Matoaka', which meant 'little snow feather'. 'Amonte' which was her parents' name for her. 'Pocahontas' which meant 'lively or naughty one'.

As an older girl Pocahontas was interested in meeting the colonists who lived in Jamestown.

She could speak some English words.

She traded with the white men and carried messages from her father to them.

When Pocahontas was 17 the colonists and the native Americans were not so friendly.

The colonists planned to exchange Pocahontas for English prisoners and weapons which the native Americans had.

While she was a prisoner Pocahontas became a Christian and she was renamed Rebecca.

She married tobacco planter John Rolfe . She married tobacco planter John Rolfe

They had a son Thomas. The marriage helped stop the fighting between native Americans and the colonists.

In 1616 Rebecca and her family went to England to raise money.

Other native Americans traveled with them Other native Americans traveled with them. The ship they sailed on was called the 'Treasurer'.

Pocahontas was a great success in Britain. The high point was meeting the King of England, James 1st.

On the voyage back home she became very sick On the voyage back home she became very sick. The boat turned back and Pocahontas died in England

A note in the church books in Gravesend in England shows Pocahontas the native American Indian princess was 22 years old when she died.
