The Rosetta Stone By Austin Henady

What is the Rosetta Stone The Rosetta stone is a slab of black stone found in a town called el-Rashid (Rosetta). The Rosetta stone was written in two different languages (Greek and Egyptian) and three scripts (Greek, Egyptian hieroglyphs and Demotic)

Why is the Rosetta Stone Written in 3 Different Scripts So everyone could read the Rosetta Stone. The Greek was for the administration, the hieroglyphics for the priests and the Demotic for the commoners.

When was the Rosetta Stone Made? The Rosetta stone is dated to 200 B.C. It was made by the priests of the temple.

Who Decrypted the Rosetta Stone? Jean –Francois Champollion decrypted the Rosetta Stone. Jean-Francois Champollion decrypted the Rosetta stone by figuring out that all 3 texts on the Rosetta Stone were talking about the same thing.

Who and Where was the Rosetta Stone Found? A solider in Napoleon’s army (Pierre François Xavier Bouchard) found the Rosetta Stone while working on a fort in el- Rashid (Rosetta). The Rosetta Stone was eventually given as a gift to King George III.

When was the Rosetta Stone Found? The Rosetta Stone was found in 1799 A.D.

Under Which Pharaoh was the Rosetta Stone Made? The Rosetta Stone was made under Ptolemy V.

Why was the Rosetta Stone Made? To tell people the good deeds Ptolemy V did for the temple. The Rosetta Stone was made by the priests of the temple in el-Rashid (Rosetta).

Why is the Rosetta stone Important Today? Hieroglyphics had gone out of use in the 4th century A.D., and the knowledge of how to decipher them disappeared also. The discovery of the Rosetta Stone about 1,400 years later made it possible for scholars to use the Greek inscription to decipher the hieroglyphics.
