Home page Coasts Plates of the earth Quiz

Plates Of The Earth Home The surface of the Earth is broken up into large plates. It’s easy to confuse these plates with the Earth’s crust – the thin outermost layer of the Earth. But there is more to the structure of the Earth than this simple image of a ‘cracked egg-shell’. The Earth’s layers can be defined in two different ways – based on the chemical composition or the mechanical properties of the rock. To understand what plates are, it is important to understand both of these different models. Home

Quiz This is to test you to see if you have learnt anything from this revision guide press the arrow below to start the quiz please write your answers on some paper. Home

Coasts The coast is quite a big topic for GCSE geography these will help you learn about the coasts Erosion Coastal defences Headlands and Bays Hollbeck Hall Home

This video will tell you about weathering erosion . Home Coasts home

Headlands and Bays Headlands and bays are often found on the same coastline. A bay is surrounded by land on three sides, whereas a headland is surrounded by water on three sides. Headlands are characterized by high, breaking waves, rocky shores, intense erosion, and steep sea cliffs.

Coastal Defences Table to show prices of different coastal defences Groynes £5000 Rock armour £1,000 and £4,000 per metre Beach replenishment £3000 per km Gabions £4000 per km Tetrapod's £126 per pod Sea wall £2000-£5000 per meter

Hollbeck Hall Case Study This is one of the assessments about why Hollbeck Hall fell of the cliff . Key words you will need to include for this assessment are: write about cracks in the clay soft rock expands slipping plane rotational slip hydraulic action abrasion attrition corrosion takes away the material. Then the cliff retreats further and further away from the cliff this is called cliff recession.

Question 1 How much do groynes cost? A)£3500 B)£500 C)£5000

Question 2 What kind of plate boundary is lied at the San Andreas fault? A) Conservative B) Subduction C) Constructive

Question 3 What rock do you need to make a bay? A)Soft rock B)Hard rock C)Volcanic rock

Question 4 Can you Name four coastal defences?

Question 5 What is the line of volcanoes called down the Atlantic Ocean? A) Atlantic volcanoes B)Mid-Atlantic Ridge Click arrow for answers C) Slide of lava

Different Types Of Plates Destructive collision zone Conservative plate boundary Destructive subduction plate boundary Constructive plate boundary e.g Mid Atlantic ridge Plates home Home
