Mauna Loa Pacey Ludlam Spring 2013 PACE

About the Mauna Loa You may have thought that Mount Everest was the largest mountain, but you were wrong. Everest is the highest elevation on land, but it is only a single peak in an entire mountain range. The Mauna Loa is actually the largest mountain/volcano. As tall as 13,678' (4,169 m) tall above sea level.

Where Mauna Loa is Located The Mauna Loa is located in Hawaii. Many people love to go to Hawaii for a vacation. What do you think there mostly fascinated about? If you said the Mauna Loa you are right because it is one of the tallest volcanoes in the world.

When the Mauna Loa Usually Occurs Volcanoes are scary natural formations, squirting out lava in often destructive eruptions. The Hawaiian island chain, formed by volcanoes over millions of years, is home to several volcanoes, such as the Mauna Loa and a few other and some of these are were still active in Volcanoes in the Aloha State erupt and the lava flows on the big island are still a popular site tourist attraction..

What Caused the Mauna Loa Volcanoes are formed when cracks in the earth's surface allow molten rock, ash and gasses to escape from deep within the earth. When these eruptions happen the material cools above the earth's surface. Over many eruptions this can cause the volcano to form a mountain shape.
