Antidiscrimination at the workplace On the ground of sexual orientation

HomO The Ombudsman against Discrimination on grounds of Sexual Orientation (in Swedish with the acronym HomO) is appointed by the Swedish Government. The Office of the Ombudsman has the general assignment to counteract homophobia and address discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation in all areas of Swedish society.

Tasks The tasks of the Ombudsman The Ombudsman’s general assignment is to address and counteract homophobia and discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation in all areas of Swedish society. Sexual orientation is a collective term used to refer to the fact that everyone has a sexual orientation, whether this is gay, lesbian, bisexual or heterosexual. Discrimination is where one person is treated less favourably than another person would be in an analogous situation without objective justification. Homophobia is an ideology, a perception or a conscious value whereby an individual, group or society expresses a strong negative view of homosexuality, or of gay, lesbian and bisexual people. Homophobic attitudes conflict with the principle of equality in dignity and rights for all human beings.

Working life project ALL CLEAR An Equal collaboration about sexual orientation at work. In All Clear the organisations from the two former Equal project Homosexuals and Bisexuals in the Care System and Normgiving Diversity cooperate.

The project All Clear has been training, developing methods and tools since 2002 with the aim to improve the knowledge about sexual orientation on the workplace. All Clear is runned by employers ( The Swedish Army, The Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions and Södertälje Municipality), Unions (Academinic Association SSR and The Salaried Employees’ Union HTF) and NGO´s (RFSL—The Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights, EKHO). Projektet är delfinansierat via medel från Europeiska Socialfonden och Equalprogrammet.

All Clear THIS IS WHAT THEY CAN DO Give advice on how to work with sexual orientation issues at your workplace Arrange education days with one of our project managers Send an education tool (only in Swedish) Provide access to research in the field of sexual orientation
