2 History Grassroots group started its activities in Lugansk (Eastern part of Ukraine) at the end of 1997 December 1998 – establishing organisation ↓ Fighting for our human rights to have openly LGBT association 30 November 1999 – official legalisation of NASH MIR (Our World) Gay and Lesbian Centre 2003 – moving headquarters to Kyiv

3 Goals Protection of rights and freedoms towards LGBT in Ukraine and improvement of their legal protection, combating discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity. Improvement of society's attitudes towards homosexuality and people of homosexual orientation, combating homophobic and transphobic sentiments in the mass consciousness. Upbringing of self-consciousness of LGBT as equal and valuable members of society.

5 Some achievements In three bills to ban so-called "propaganda of homosexuality" were submitted to the Ukrainian parliament – were rejected. In November 2015, the Ukrainian Parliament adopted an amendment to the Labor Code which prohibited discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) in employment. Thus, for the first time in Ukraine, LGBT people were protected from discrimination at the legislative level. 2015: adoption of the Action Plan to implement the National Strategy on Human Rights. LGBTI items are included into national human rights policy.

6 We have cautious optimism for the future
