“Fleece” Navidad

This story is about why we say “Faliz Navidad” at Christmas.

We all know Santa’s helpers in the North Pole are elves, but he also has helpers in Mexico: sheep.

One Christmas Eve, Santa couldn’t bring gifts to the little boys and girls in Mexico because it was too hot for his reindeer.

Santa asked Pedro and Diego Sheep to bring the gifts to the boys and girls. They said “Ok! We’ll be baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack in no time.”

The sheep gladly took the presents to all the boys and girls. They were having so much fun bringing joy to all the little kids, that they had lost one present! “Oh no!” said Diego “We lost this little boy’s present!”

“What will we do?” cried Pedro. Right then, Ralph the Mouse scurried in. “I know! You can make him a sweater from your fleece!” said Ralph. “Great idea!” exclaimed Pedro.

“Well let’s get started!” said Diego. The three friends worked all night. Since Ralph was so small, he made beautiful designs on it. They finally had made a beautiful sweater.

When the little boy came downstairs Christmas morning, he couldn’t have been happier! The sweater was just what he had wished for. Attached to the sweater was a note saying “Fleece Navidad!” And that is why we say “Faliz Navidad” at Christmas.
