APC Web/SNMP Management Card and PowerChute Network Shutdown Overview

Monitoring Configuration Control Logging Shutdown PowerChute plus was originally designed for 1-4kva, one-server-one-UPS systems Monitoring Configuration Control Logging Shutdown

But what functions are for what device? What really belongs where? Monitoring - of UPS Configuration - of UPS Control - of UPS Logging - of data from UPS Shutdown - of SERVER

PowerChute plus does all of these: Monitoring - of UPS Configuration - of UPS Control - of UPS Logging - of info from UPS Shutdown - of SERVER

Logging - of info from UPS Shutdown - of SERVER For 5kva and over, 1 UPS, many-server systems: Monitoring - of UPS Configuration - of UPS Control - of UPS Logging - of info from UPS Shutdown - of SERVER Web/ SNMP Card Sends events over network PowerChute Network Shutdown

Network Diagram with Web Card and PCNS

Increasingly, you will see the following: PowerChute plus on 1-5kva systems Web/SNMP Management Card and PCNS on 5 kva and up systems

Will Web/SNMP Card replace PowerChute plus on smaller UPSs? Probably not; cost the major factor Customers will still want PowerChute plus for low-kva apps

Web/SNMP Management Card Provides standards-based Management: Web browser SNMP support Telnet support Can configure, monitor, and control APC UPSs unit, and can shut down multiple PowerChute Network Shutdown clients Can send SNMP traps and SMTP emails directly to warn of power events

Web card uses MD-5 authentication

Web card Shows UPS Status

You can configure low-battery setting, etc:

Web card includes an event log to view power events

All the same information can be accessed/controlled via telnet (a favorite tool of many network administrators)

Web Card now has SMTP e-mail Capability

Paging Support Customers can use the Web Card’s SMTP Email Support to send pages via a gateway at their paging service.

PowerChute Network Shutdown

Specific Feature Details Supports shutdown based on time on battery or low battery Web/SNMP Card can find out the longest time needed for all systems, wait, and then turn off UPS Supports running a command file before shutdown for customization

PowerChute Network Shutdown Browser based interface Reliable architecture Supports virtually unlimited number of clients

More specific feature details On Windows NT, includes server app shutdown BackOffice Notes Web server (Netscape, IIS)

Each client has the IP address of the Web Card

Four actions for each event possible: - Log - Notify - Run Command File - Shut down system

Configure multiple events simultaneously via a Wizard

Event wizard steps user through each decision...

You can configure shutdown behavior - Run command file -Turn off UPS if preferable

Each PCNS client has an event log
