Monarch Butterflies By Spenser Millan

Basic Facts Monarch butterflies are insects They live for 1-12 months The wingspan is nearly 13 cm.

Habitat They live in North, South, and Central America as well as Australia, some Pacific Islands and India.

Diet The larvae only eat milkweed plants. Adult butterflies eat nectar, water, and liquids from fruits.

Place in the food chain Butterflies sip nectar from plants and are eaten by birds and other animals as well as other insects. Not edible because of a poisonous chemical found on their wings that comes from eating milkweed, not from bottles like this

Why is a monarch butterfly endangered? They are endangered because people chop down trees in all of America and Mexico and because of this they have nowhere to land.

Glossary larvae: a caterpillar of a moth or butterfly Endangered Species: a species of plant or animal that is in danger of becoming extinct Wing-span: the distance between the outer tips of the wings Nectar: a sweet liquid that bees collect from flowers and turn into honey
