 Bangladesh is a land of rivers. There are more than 700 rivers and their tributaries crisscross the country constituting a water way of total length around 24,140km.

Main Rivers  The principal rivers of Bangladesh are the Padma, the Meghna, the Jamuna, the Buriganga, the Karnaphuli, the Tista and many others.Most of these rivers rise from the Himalayas and fall into the Bay of Bengal.

Present Situation Of Rivers Though we have a lot of Though we have a lot of rivers, many rivers have almost lost its appeal & beauty. Buriganga is the first in this list. There are some other rivers like the Padma, the Karnaphuli, the Sheetalakha are getting polluted day by day because of industrial reasons.

How we can save our rivers? How we can save our rivers? Now it is the duty of all citizen to save our rivers. Public awareness are very much needed in this regard. Necessary steps should be taken by the Government to save our valuable asset.

Sometimes the rivers cause great damage to our life and property. In the rainy season, most of the rivers overflow and cause flood or tsunami.
