Characterization How the author creates a character

Direct Characterization  The author tells us, using adjectives, makes direct statements.  Example: The poor, old man was invariably kind to others.

Indirect Characterization  The author reveals character traits in other ways, not just telling us.  Think: How do you judge a person?

Indirect Characterization  Other character’s comments about the person ( This one technique is like gossip! )
