2 Direct Characterization
Direct characterization is how an author tells his or her reader about a character. Direct characterization occurs when the author specifically reveals traits about the character in a direct, straightforward manner.

3 Indirect Characterization
The way a writer uses SALT to reveal the personality of the character: S – What the character Says A– What the character does—his or her Actions L– What the character Looks Like

4 T—What the character Thinks (This is the deepest, most personal level
Indirect Characterization requires that the reader make inferences.
