Capybaras by Larissa Knight Class: 2F

Capybaras Capybaras live for 8-10 years They can weigh between 35-66 Kilograms They can grow up to 106 to 134 cm in length They can grow to 50-62 cm in height

The Capybara is the largest rodent in the world

Capybaras are close relatives to Guinea Pigs and Rock Cavies.

The Capybara comes from South America and lives in areas where there are trees, grass and water.

Capybaras can sleep in water, keeping only their noses out of the water.

They also spend a lot of time wallowing in the mud.

Capybaras are social animals and can be found in groups as large as 100, but usually lives in groups of 10–20.

We always see Capybaras whenever we go to Brazil to visit family We always see Capybaras whenever we go to Brazil to visit family. Where my Nan works there are lots. My nana had to hold me.

Look how brave my Dad and Grandad are in having their photo taken with the Capybaras so close to them.

Capybaras are herbivores, They eat mainly grass and aquatic plants, as well as fruit and tree bark. Capybaras eat their own poo. They may also regurgitate (Vomit) food to chew it again, similar to a cow. The front teeth and cheek teeth of Capybaras grow continually to compensate for the constant wear from eating grass.

Believe it or not Capybaras can run as fast as a horse

Capybaras Capybara skin is used to make shoes and gloves. Capybara Poo is used for Farmers to help grow plants and crops.

Capybaras Hair is used to make brushes. Meat contains 24% Protein.

Capybaras The next time me and my family go to Brazil I will try and get a close up photo of a Capybara for you all to see.
