Session 2: Child Rights, Protection and Well-being Module 1: Rationale of CF DRR Child Rights UN Convention on the Rights of the Child Recognizing that children have rights as human beings and need special care and protection, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted the Declaration on the Rights of the Child on 20 November 1959.

Session 2: Child Rights, Protection and Well-being Module 1: Rationale of CF DRR Roles and responsibilities of Parents Parents are the primary caregivers of children, while governments are charged with assisting families in fulfilling their role.The rights of parents with respect to children are directly linked to the need for parents to promote and protect children’s rights.
